The Last Hunt

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, this is a short story I am working on. It’s unedited, so forgive any major mistakes. I’ll post it in chunks so it’s easier to read. Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I know this is a hunting site. So, where better to get opinions on a story revolving around hunting than here, from hunters. Thank you for humoring me and reading.
The Last Hunt - Part 1
The silvery moon hung low in the night sky, full and round like the extended belly of a pregnant woman with the same radiant glow as one would expect to see on her cheeks. It was a thing of beauty, no doubt. Josh stared up at it from his spot on an old stump on the edge of the hill over looking the bottom lands he had grown up wandering around in. A light breeze blew from the east, rustling the branches and the few remaining dead leafs that yet to fall from the trees that were scattered along the tip of the ridge.
Below, in the timber along the creek, came the long bawl of one of the hounds. He smiled. Ol’ mister ringtail was out and about, and the chase was about to begin. It didn’t take long for the other dogs to open on the track, and the countryside came alive with the sweet music that only one who had a love of old hounds could ever truly appreciate.
“Listen to that, would you. There ain’t nothing sweeter than the sound of a hound hot on the trail of an old coon.”
Josh looked over at the young man who sat on the ground next to him. His face was awash from the glow of the moon, making the features more round and soft than they actually were. He had been pass the young kid look for quite a few years now, and in the light of day, the rugged handsomeness of adulthood shone through.
“It’s sweet, Grandpa. No doubt about it.”
