Tagtropolis.com: Tagging the Outdoors

It’s no secret that social networking and bookmarking is popular right now, and for good reasons. Never has it been so easy to connect with people who share common interests as yourself and with friends. And as the popularity of such sites increase, the way internet surfers search for and find information and news relevant to them and their interests do as well.
With the launch of Tagtropolis.com, outdoor enthusiasts can now benefit from the simplicity of finding outdoor related news and information that has been deemed worthy by their own. A social bookmarking site similar to Digg and Netscape, Tagtropolis enables outdoor enthusiasts in ‘Tagging the Outdoors’. By submitting and voting of stories and news by you, it’s aim is to become the metropolis news and information site of all things outdoors.

While the concept behind Tagtropolis isn’t new (sites like Digg, Reddit, and Slashdot brought the idea of social bookmarking to the forefront), the focus on the bookmarking of outdoor related sites in particular is. As the major sites listed previously have grown into the behemoths they are, finding news and information that isn’t a part of their major focus is becoming increasingly more difficult. For this reason, niche sites have began popping up, and you can anticipate seeing this trend continue to grow over the next few years. Tagtropolis just so happens to be the one aiming to fill the outdoor niche.
Tagtropolis launched today, April 23, and is still in beta. The base functionality of the site is in place and internet surfers can register to submit and vote for stories in a number of outdoor categories. As the user base grows, and the direction the user would like to see the site grow in, Tagtropolis will implement additional upgrades and functionality. If there are any apparent bugs in the site, you can contact the Admin of the site by sending an email to admin@tagtropolis.com.
I think this will be a great addition to the outdoor community and look forward to ‘tagging the outdoors’.

I think this is very cool and will have to check it out. One of the difficulties I’ve found in trying to increase the audience for the blog I write, is that most mainstream sites don’t have a lot of hunters on them, or at least don’t appear to have many. A site targeted toward the outdoors seems like a good thing.

I did go check it out. Did a post about it on my blog today as well, and am going to spread the word on some forums.
Very cool idea and one that was long overdue. Here’s hoping it really takes off.

I joined Tagtropolis today after I saw several visitors came from that site in my statistics.
I am not to shy to admit that I still do not know how it worksand what I can do.

This Redneck had to be enlightened at one time as well, so don’t feel bad.
Basic gest of it is this:
When you find a story, article, news, information, etc. that you think would be good to let others know about, you submit it to Tagtropolis for everyone. You, the readers, then vote on the submissions based on how well you liked the information, how useful it was, how informative it was, and a slew of other reasons. By doing so, the community determines what is on the front page.
Hope that helps.

Cliff,
Did want to mention that when I joined I got an e-mail that said to be sure to read the FAQs, but I couldn’t find any FAQs. Are they still being written?
Haven’t checked back this morning yet, so they may be there now.

There should be some FAQ’s posted soon, I believe.
