Smith & Wesson Targets Shotgunners

by

One of the more exciting unveilings at the SHOT Show I wrote about yesterday is Smith & Wesson’s aggresive return to manufacturing shotguns.

When it comes to pistols, the S&W name holds quite a bit of esteem among gun owners. The number of people owning one is a high one no doubt, but the number owning a S&W shotgun isn’t. After a brief foray into shotguns during the mid 70’s and early 80’s, they quit manufacturing them and the guns aren’t very prolific.

This time around, Steve Skrubis, who has worked for Bennelli and Ithica, has concentrated on practicality with the design of the 12 and 20 gauge S&W shotguns. Every part of the gun is micro-plated to increase the reliability in less-than-favorable conditions. Another feature is a chamber in the stock that allows the owner to add up to 15 extra ounces of weight to help with recoil reduction. These, along with other unique features, should make the S&W brand shotguns a desirable addition for any hunter’s arsenal.

While I’ve never had the opportunity to see or use one of the earlier model S&W shotguns, I’d definitely be interested in trying out one of their new models. The guns are expected to start hitting retail shelves sometime in April, and it’ll be interesting to see what the interest level in S&W’s second foray into this market. If it is anything like their pistols, it should be a success.

For more information, you can visit the Smith & Wesson website where they’ve posted pictures of the different shotgun models that will be available.
