Script Frenzy and Hunting

by Cliff

I don’t know how many of you know it, but I’m a writer at heart. I’ve loved creating stories and writing about different subjects for as long as I can remember. And it was through my love of writing that I met my wonderful wife, who is also a writer. Writing and my love of hunting is also responsible for Hunting Sense, so I think you can begin to get the idea just how important writing is to me and my life.

I’ve often complained about the portrayal of hunters in modern media, from movies to television and everywhere in between. Well, my wife is participating in an event called Script Frenzy, which is most easily described as writing a script in one month. You can read all about it in more detail at their website.

My wife has been bugging me to do it with her, and I’ve been seriously considering it, but haven’t really had any ideas that struck a chord with me on what to write. Over the weekend, an inkling of an idea has been forming, and it’s something I just may do. Here’s the reasoning and thinking that has led me to where I now am in contemplating signing up and what to write.

I’ve often complained about how the media, movies and television in this case, portray hunters. I’ve also stated that it would be nice to see them actually portrayed in a better way, but I’m not going to be holding my breath waiting for it. So, this Script Frenzy would be a perfect opportunity for me to take an active step in doing something about it.

I don’t have any idea of the actual story I would write, but I do know it could be one where the hunter was actually the good guy instead of the bad guy. Other than that, it’s all up in the air. And sure, it may not ever be something that would get made, but I could at least say that I actually did something instead of just sitting back and complaining about things.

Hmmm, there are a lot of things to think about. I’m off to brainstorm for a bit.

Sounds like an interesting idea. Also, one of the ways to change the protrayal of hunters and outdoorpersons in the media is to have people who actually participate in the activities write the scripts and stories.

I hope you do it. I’d be interested to see what you write.

More power to both of you! The media makes us all out to be bad guys. I know that’s wrong! I have been hunting and fishing for too long to tell and have only met 2 “jerk” hunters and one “jerk” fisherman.

[…] month I have set my sights on a somewhat crazy and off-the-wall goal. Some of you may remember me talking about a challenge called Script Frenzy, where you tried to write a screenplay in one month. Well, that event was inspired by another, […]
