Romney Dodges NRA Annual Conference
Mitt Romney wants us to believe he is a hunter and a pro-gun supporter. He has gone to great lengths in trying to do so, from joining the NRA to stretching the truth about his hunting experience. Even as the truth is separated from fiction, he continues trying to make us believe by spinning elaborate excuses and cracking jokes about it.
Interestingly, Mr. Romney failed to take an opportunity in St. Louis on Friday to further make us believe by not attending the NRA annual conference. He was in the same city at the same time for a fund-raiser, so why didn’t he? Like many of his other actions and remarks, it does little in supporting his claims of being one of us. It does, however, help in confirming the only reason he wants us to believe these things is to garner our votes.
It’s pretty clear when looking at his past record that he took a radically different stance from what he is now trying to appear to on issues relating to guns. To me, that says he must believe we’re pretty dumb if he thinks we’re not able to see what he’s doing. And if we were to believe him, how long would it take for him to go right back to his old ways after he was elected? My guess? Not very long.
Political campaigns are a lot of smoke and mirrors, carefully crafted and carried out by politicians to get elected. While many are quite skilled at this, it seems Mr. Romney needs more practice at it. Sure, Mitt Romney is a hunter. He’s hunting for our votes. And he appears to know as little about doing that as he actually does about hunting.

Mr. Romney needs to fire his PR people and he needs to do it quickly. This was beyond stupid. If you are in the same city you go to the conference. If you don’t want to go to the conference, don’t be in the same city.
Much as I sometimes hate to admit it, PR and Marketing aren’t rocket science. Both take creativity, true, but they also require common sense. It appears Mr. Romney and his handlers are sadly lacking in the latter.
