Reading, Riting, & Rithmetic

Todays post is all about the three R’s, and don’t worry, it’s not about Jethro.
Reading
I’ve been doing some reading lately. More specifically, I’ve been reading a really interesting book titled The Politically Incorrect Guide to Hunting by Frank Miniter. I was contacted a few weeks back and asked to do a review of the book. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. Who wouldn’t, considering Frank Miniter was a senior editor at Outdoor Life magazine and is the executive editor of American Hunter magazine, that he knows what he is talking about, and that this book deals with the realities of hunting the media fails to report. I’m about a third of the way through it right now and will be doing a full review post on it in the Hunting Sense Books & Videos category as soon as I’m finished reading it.
I will say this right now, though. It is definitely a book I think every one should read.
Riting
I’ve also been doing some writing. For those of you not aware, I love to write fiction, so I have been working on a few ideas for stories that have been dying to get out of my head. I’m also re-visiting some stories that are either finished and needing rewrites or some that are in various stages of being written.
Along with the creative writing, I have also been working on some forth-coming posts for here at Hunting Sense. I know I have been slacking in that area, and with the end of summer and nice weather, I find myself with more time so I’m getting work that has to be done finished up and have more time to concentrate on the site. Hopefully, some of the coming posts will make up for all the ones I haven’t made.
Rithmetic
With fall came back to school. And with school comes arithmetic. So, I have found myself having to be the one to help with math homework a lot lately. And I am amazed at how young of an age that kids are being taught more complex math now. Our daughter, who is in sixth grade this year, is already learning things that I’m pretty sure I didn’t start learning until I was in ninth grade or there abouts. Being nearly twenty years since having to actually read and understand math questions from a text book, it has been interesting. Using it on a daily basis is one thing, but actually studying and working out problems on paper is quiet another thing altogether.

[…] As I previously mentioned, I’ve been reading ‘The Politically Incorrect Guide to Hunting‘ by Frank Miniter, and I’ve recently finished it. I have to say I am awfully impressed with the amount of facts presented in it. Facts that, like the book says, the media fail to report when they talk about hunting. And they are actual facts, easily verified with little research; not just the opinions of someone who enjoys hunting. […]
