Ohio Hunters in Hog Heaven
Hunters in Ohio are getting a bonus from the Department of Natural Resources during deer season. They are encouraging hunters to shoot any wild boars they see while hunting. Any hunter with a valid deer-hunting permit may take a wild pig using whichever weapon is legal for the season they’re hunting.
Wild pigs are destructive, destroying crops and habitats, so many states find them an unwanted presence. While care should be taken with their meat and the handling and preparation of it, they’re an added bonus in the freezer. Hunters who help out by shooting them can benefit from the extra meat while helping out the other wild game that suffers from the wild pigs’ presence.
Ohio, wild pigs, hunting, deer hunting

This has nothing to do with wild pigs, but I thought you might get a thrill out of it:
I live in central PA (a very rural neighborhood), and my neighbor came home from hunting on Wednesday with a black bear that weighed in with the game commission at 497 pounds. IT WAS HUGE!
When he shot it, it actually ran out of the woods and through my aunt’s back yard, just moments after her 11 year old daughter had come inside. They chased and tracked the bear for a few hours before finally finding it.
The entire valley was here to watch the hunting hero come home and to watch my dad, who used to own a butcher shop and do taxadermy, skin the thing.
What an exciting night!

Cliff
Yesterday I took my 13 year old nephew, and your cousin deer hunting.
He didnt get a monster,just a doe.But I can tell
you the thrill,of seeing this young man,get his deer, was so awesome.
He told me,I am helping put food on thetable, for Dad and me.
He has learned to be a responsible hunter, and knows you dont take an animals life as a light thing.
I was so proud to be a part of that hunt, and see the look on his face.Tears in his eyes, when he was stroking his deer, thanking her for the food.
Made me think of you and your brother, and our many hunts,
Thanks for the memories.

Cliff, I wrote this poem for a spoof contest last year. It didn’t win, but you might like it.
To Hogzilla, Who Made Much of Time
Hunters gather and get ready to kill
another beloved boar.
They search in vain for that next big thrill
of being part of the local lore.
In Alapaha, Georgia, heedlessly gunned down
you were buried on a farm.
Yet only after death, this little town
realized the profits of your charm.
Six months later, from the grave abruptly hauled
so that stats could be released.
Tusks set new world records; thus, they called
you an impressive beast.
Parades and parties were put on in your name,
with little pigs galore.
Yet the peg-legged Bigfoot in the 70’s felt the same,
and we hear of him no more.

Wild boars eh? I’ve heard rumors that a millionaire released an entire stock of them in some old stripper pit mine grounds not too far from where we live. Apparently they are living successfully there, because every now and then somebody will see one or actually take one. I don’t think there are any regs about taking them here, because the DNR or some group like that wants them out.

Where are the stip mines where these pigs were released? does anyone know where to find wild boar on public land?
