No “Mancation” For Me
I don’t know how many of you have ever heard of “mancation, but it is a guy’s only vacation or getaway. The actual definition can be found on the “Urban Dictionary site. Apparently the term has gained popularity with it’s use by Vince Vaughn in the movie, “The Break-Up. Now businesses are beginning to target this market by offering guy only vacation packages.
As I read the article, I couldn’t help but think, this definitely isn’t anything new, it’s just a new name for it. Men have been doing this for centuries whenever they go out to the hunting cabin or on a fishing trip. Outfitters and hunting lodges have been catering to these “mancations before the term was even coined. The only difference now is that those outside the outdoor industry are jumping on the bandwagon with their own take on manly getaways, and an inflated price tag to go along with it.
I have to say that the actual word “mancation grates on my nerves. Even though it includes the word “man in it, it sounds so un-manly it is sickening. It sounds so “yuppy that it’s hard to conjure images of hunting camps, nights in tents on the banks of lakes and streams, and rustic hunting lodges.
Luckily, it seems that the original outfitters and hunting lodges aren’t joining in on the use of this new word, and I have to say I’m glad. I want to call a hunting trip a hunting trip. If I want to spend a weekend fishing with the guys, I want to call it a weekend of fishing with the guys.
I don’t know, maybe I’m just too old-fashioned, or maybe I just like to keep up that rugged outdoor perception. Either way, “mancation just doesn’t fit with either of those for me. How about for you?

Sounds a lot like “Metrosexual”, and that can’t be good. Does EVERYTHING in our life have to be feminized, made cute and fuzzy? Damn!

I was wondering the same thing, FHB. When is it ever going to end?
