International Hunting Day
As most of you are probably already aware of, Saturday, September 22nd, is National Hunting & Fishing Day in the United States. Maybe something a little less well known, though, is that it’s also Provincial Hunting Day in Alberta, Canada. I’m not sure if any of the other provinces are planning any activities for that day. But after seeing that the concept is something that extends beyond the borders of just one country, it gave me an idea.
Why not an International Hunting Day?
From a cursory search on the internet, there doesn’t seem to be anything like it already. When you stop and think about it, though, hunting is a universal activity, so a day to celebrate and promote it could very easily be an international event. I can definitely see something like it becoming a reality sometime in the future.
I envision such an event being a day for each country and its people to celebrate the heritage and tradition of hunting and the role it’s played in their development. Not only that, but also a day to promote the continuation of hunting and to help dispel the negative connotations that have become attached to it in our modern world. And taking advantage of the true potential of an international event, it could be a day for each country to learn about the way hunting is viewed and done in other places around the world.
I think it would be interesting to see what others think of the idea, and to see what they envision such an event being and the activities that could be associated with it to make it truly international.

I’m all for it and I will be celebrating it this weekend by taking my cousin on a youth hunt.
I think an international hunting day would be great. Anything that portrays hunting in a positive light is fine by me.

[...] on the car radio, my wife happened to come across a radio talk-show where they were discussing Alberta’s Provincial Hunting Day. Even though the kids were less than thrilled by the prospect of having to listen to it, my wife [...]

We celebrated by hunting with the family, and the kids learned how to gut, hang, and skin a deer.

Why not an International Hunting Day?
As far as I am informed this is in the works, the biggest hurdle is to get it past the ever so politically correct UN and EU.
