Hunting Trip Turns Into Border Vigilante Nightmare
Roger Barnett, who has a ranch near the Mexican-American border made up partially of state trust land he leases, boasts of detaining more than 10,000 illegal immigrants over the last 10 years. On October 30, 2004, it wasn’t illegals he held at gunpoint though. It was US citizens out for an afternoon hunting trip.
Ronald Morales, a veteran of the United States Navy, and his hunting party, which included two young girls, were held at gunpoint by Barnett and verbally assaulted and threatened. Morales and his group were accused by Barnett of trespassing, but the state trust land he leases is open to hunting by the public. I’d say Barnett let racism and discrimination get the best of him.
What kind of world is it that we live in when a family hunting trip turns into a nightmare at the hands of a self-confessed border vigilante? And all because of the color of your skin and heritage? This shows exactly why the law needs to be handled by people capable of being intelligent instead of idiots.
I imagine this incident has limited the hunting trips made by Morales, which is sad if it did.

You’re article did not say upon which land the trespassing took place.
Landowners have the right to detain trespassers on their land.
And it is pure conjecture to claim this is a “border vigilante”. If you are unaware of the damage done by immigrants crossing the border, you should check it out. They leave huge mountains of garbage behind and have done millions of dollars in damage.
Your attitude is that landowners have no rights. How about I show up at your apartment and trash your house?
Morales should stick to hunting on land he has permission to hunt on, or public lands. Any fool that trespasses is deserving of detaining - even with a weapon. Don’t forget - the hunting “party” was armed too.

Good points, but I did state which land he was on. It was state trust land that the rancher had leased, which does not change the fact it’s open to the public for hunting purposes.
Again, being so use to immigrants, Barnett jumped to the conclusion that they were before he even knew.

I like speaking English only, I like having hospitals open since many are now closing because of illegal immigrants getting free healthcare, I like having safe roads as opposed to illegals who can’t read or write English & are drunk when they drive. View my video on Youtube for some facts. I like my children getting a good education..one where half the day isn’t taken up by helping Spanish speakers only. Santa Ana, CA, near where I live looks like Tijuana now…you’d never know you were out of Mexico in some areas. Well, I guess I’m one of those..what do you call them, vigilantes? yeah, right. Well, we’re not going away.

So are you saying that instead of going about trying to change it through proper channels, you’ll take the law into your own hands? Does that mean, like Barnett, you’ll hold a person at gunpoint based solely upon the color of their skin?
I’m sorry, but all that makes you is an ignorant racist trying to convince yourself your a hero if that’s the case.
No matter the reasons you give trying to justify it, becoming a vigilante (someone who takes the law into their own hands) leads to racism and discrimination. Laws and authorities were put into place for a reason, and when you try to do their job for them, it makes you no different than the people you’re complaing about.
