Hunting Sense Blog Hunt #4: Outdoor Blogging
The long overdue issue #4 of the Blog Hunt.
I’ve been excited over the recent rash of posts made by my fellow outdoor bloggers on blogging. As I’m still fairly new at blogging and always looking for ways to improve, I find myself doing Google searches for blogging tips all the time. What is out there is great, but when you here experiences and tips from people who blog about the same things you do, that is valuable information. Here are just a few of the great posts anyone who blogs about the outdoors should read.

Outdoor Blog Marketing 101 - Fill The Parking Lot, part 1
…So, what is my point? What does parking in front of the store have to do with your blog? The point is simply to ‘Make your visitor feel comfortable’. Make them feel safe and comfortable entering your site and digging a little deeper.
How? How do you park out front and fill up the parking lot?…

Further Your Career From Blogging
I would like to take the time to explain to people the nature of blogging and how it can make you money and further your career if done properly. Some people feel they can cash in directly from a blog and I will only tell you this, blogging can make you money short term and long term. You can use Text Link Ads, Google Adsense, direct sponsors, and maybe you can fill a few ads using BlogAds. As an independent blogger you can cash in on some of these things and make a little money, there is no doubt. I remember the day when I started making over $400 per month with Adsense I was so happy I thought I was a millionaire. I partied and probably drank a brew in celebration. But $400 per month is not something you can live off of. It doesn’t even cover all the hard work you put in all month. But it was a milestone.

Blogging in the Hunting Niche
For some of us who have been writing blogs in the hunting niche we can all find similarities and most will tell you it has been a long tough road. The truth of the matter is most hunters who come online enjoy forum based communities. The forum still seems to be the most entertaining, resourceful, and easiest script to understand. The word “blog” still can have a downside to what you are trying to achieve. The term “blog” is highly associated with myspace and people can only picture a troubled teen posting a nude picture of herself on her blog. Parents worry to the high heavens that their children don’t go to any pervert blogs.

When Determining Your Mission - Don’t Forget Your Vision
Steve, at Skinny Moose Media, put up another great post to help bloggers get the most from their blogs, entitled “Have A Mission Statement For People To Read“. I agree with Steve that a mission statement is very important and am glad that he put up the article. I highly encourage everyone with an outdoor blog to read it.
However, a Vision is equally important. Your vision is where you are going (what is your ultimate goal) and your mission is how you achieve that goal.

Cliff, thanks for the praise. As you have undoubtedly figured out, I love the outdoors. I grew up hunting and fishing and love to ‘talk’ about it. But, since beginning my blog, I’ve found that I enjoy reading the rants, ravings, suggestions, tips, and ideas of my fellow outdoor bloggers AS much as I enjoy writing my own.
Getting more people actively involved in the outdoors AND encouraging them to SHARE their experiences and insights with the rest of us (via their own blog) is becoming a passion for me.
I thouroughly enjoy your blog and am honored that you’ve found anything I’ve written helpful. THANKS!
