Hunting Sense Blog Hunt #3 - Outdoor Bloggers Convention Edition
The Hunting Sense Blog Hunt is where I share some of the posts my fellow outdoor bloggers have made that really caught my attention. Well, this edition follows along those lines with a little twist to it. There has been talk of a possible Outdoor Bloggers Convention so I’m doing a special Outdoor Bloggers Convention edition this time. Kristine at Hunt Smart Think Safety is the one running with the idea, so I’ll start there.

Outdoor Bloggers Convention
Matt from Bright Ideas Outdoors Weblog posted the above in response to my June 12 post. The idea of a convention for outdoor bloggers first surfaced, if I remember correctly, on Rex Howell’s Deer Camp Blog. It’s been kicked around in a couple of other places, including on this blog, but it’s never been addressed seriously. I figure today is a good day to do that.
So fellow outdoor bloggers, what are your thoughts about having an Outdoor Bloggers Convention? I’m willing to work on organizing it, if there is enough interest. I’d love to say that my company would be one of the sponsors but, at this point, that’s just not something we can manage financially. Actual money aside, the company would donate my services to organize the convention. We could also use my designer to design a logo and the associated logowear, since we all know it’s not a convention with out a t-shirt. I might even be able to sweet talk my way into some t-shirts and caps. (And possibly some cool truck decals for Gunslinger Matt.) So that’s got to count for something.

Outdoor Bloggers Convention, Additional Thoughts
Yesterday, in this post, I raised the idea of putting together an Outdoor Bloggers Convention. It appears that there is some interest in the idea, which is great. Today I thought I would recap what has been suggested and maybe outline a few ways that we can go forward with this.
1. Location. Rex quite rightly pointed out that a central location might work better for the majority of people who would attend. He suggested something in the Midwest, which would be more accessible for our blogging friends from Canada. Matt suggested Michigan, which I personally think is a great idea. I’d love to have everyone come and see beautiful Traverse City. It would also be really easy for me to plan things if I was planning in my home town. Ultimately, of course, the location will most likely be determined by which organizations or companies are interested in sponsoring this shindig.

Outdoor Bloggers Summit: Proposed Agenda Items
Kristine got the ball rolling on the Outdoor Bloggers Convention, and I’ve spent a great deal of time thinking about it since she published her posts last week. I was encouraged by the interest from other bloggers she generated and got really excited when Othmar suggested that we get the Motor City Madman Ted Nugent to host the event.
I have no idea if that is even a remote possibility, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to think big. Judging from the comments made on Kristine’s site by Othmar, who is a pro staffer for Heirloom Custom Turkey Calls, his vision of this idea is as a major event. He suggested that it was not even realistic to think about having it this year because of the planning involved.

Cliff,
You join Matt in the “You rock!” category. Thanks for posting this. I want to get the word out to as many people as possible, and this will help.
By the way, I think the official name is now the “Outdoor Bloggers Summit”. Othmar suggested the name, and it seems to have stuck.
If you have any thoughts or suggestions about the Summit, please do share them. The more input we get, the better this shindig will turn out to be.

Like Kristine said, you rock Cliff. This is a good post to get the word about the Outdoor Blogger Summit out. I have posted on various blogs in the comment section about my ideas and soon will write a post about it on my blog too. I also think of contacting some other outdoor bloggers and get their attention to this plan.
