Homemade Hunting Inventions
Hunters in general tend to be an innovative bunch of people. We are constantly either trying, or coming up with, new tactics, ideas, or items to help us in our pursuit of the animals we hunt. To continue being successful, we have to constantly adapt to our game and the particular circumstances of a certain hunting condition.
So, quite often, we find ourselves not only using new products that hit the market, but often times we fabricate what we need ourselves. These could range from hunting blinds to our own scents, and numerous things in-between. I know because I’ve been there and done that myself.
I’ve made my own scents, my own stands, my own blinds, and even made a crossbow carrier for my mom for her atv. That last one, though, would have to be what I consider to be my most innovative. I custom made it from aluminum tubing specifically for crossbows, and at the time I don’t think there was anything like it on the market. I don’t know if there is now or not, but I still see the value of such an invention if there isn’t.
All hunting products basically start out this way. Something that someone has made for their own personal use. And if it works good enough, and enough people see the benefit of it and want to use it too, then it becomes something that you see on your local stores shelves.
So, with this in mind, I thought it would be interesting to see what people have come up with for their own personal use. I know chances are good that every hunter has at least one thing like this. And if you don’t want to go into great detail so you can keep the secret to yourself, or so you can eventually market it, then just talk about it in very generalized terms.
I can’t wait to see you showing that my assumption that hunters are, indeed, innovative is right on the money.

We make things from time to time. Shooting sticks seems to be something I throw together every year because I usually forget them somewhere. I make scent cannisters out of clothespins and 35mm film cannisters. Then just put some cotton balls in there to add the scent. We made a deer hoist to clean our deer out of a boat trailer winch. We make scents from time to time as well. I’m sure there is others but I just can’t think of them right now.

I did some archery practice at a friends house recently. He had made his own bag targets and they worked better than what you’d buy at the store.
We are talking about making a deer on rails target using some model train track - just for fun.
