Hallowe’en Pumpkin Carving

I’ve always enjoyed carving our Hallowe’en jack-o-lanterns, but have only started trying to do more complicated designs the last two years. Last year I did a design with RJ the raccoon from Over the Hedge. This year I decided to go with a pair of wolves in a wooded setting. Unfortunately, I haven’t discovered a way to get a really good picture of a lit pumpkin yet, so the one above looks a bit blurry.
I discovered that doing these type of designs is a lot like doing a scroll saw piece of work, just that there isn’t any way to use a scroll saw on a pumpkin. So I tried to use the dremmel tool, but that didn’t work exactly as I thought it would on their very small detailed cuts. In the end, I used a a really small flat screwdriver from one of those box sets for small screws. It actually worked pretty good.
Next year I want to try doing one of the designs that look like wood carvings. They are extremely cool. I’ve already started thinking about what I could do. Right now, I think I want to try a deer head, but we’ll see if that ends up being the design I actually go with.
This weekend, though, all our jack-o-lanterns, along with some from our friends, neighbors, and kids at the school our kids attend, will be going to the bush to provide a meal for the local wildlife. In the case of my wolf pumpkin, I told the wife the wolves are going to be fed to the deer. Talking about a turnaround on predation that will be.

Cool pumpkin. That carving must of taken some time.
I did one of Jimi Hendrix last night and about lost my mind doing it. It turned out quite well though and took much more time then I ever imagined.

Thanks, Arthur.
If you happen to have a pic of your pumpkin carving, I’d love to see it if you don’t mind sharing.
