Crossing the Line - From the Wife

Cliff had mentioned a little while back that while on a road trip, we were listening to a radio show about hunting, and that I’d be making a post about it at some point.
I’ve pondered what to say that would show my thought process in ‘the change’ I’ve had, but I’m not sure I’m able. I’ll need a little more time to think those words out, but for now, I guess I can say that I’ve crossed the line from…well, I wouldn’t say anti-hunter, but I suppose at one point in time, that’s exactly what I was, so I’ll say it…anti-hunter. I’ve crossed the line from anti-hunter to hunting-supporter. Officially.
It’s a very strange feeling to me. It’s almost like fighting for a cause you really believe in, truly support within your value system, then stepping over the line to the other side and looking back. You see how your perceptions were skewed by misplaced compassion and you wonder how come you couldn’t see it before. Well, I guess it’s not ‘almost like’ that…it is that.
Misplaced compassion. I think that’s what tipped the scales. And information. And education. So, even though I can’t tell you exactly what was said on that show that changed my views, I can say that I hope each of you keep fighting for your side, keep trying to educate and keep providing the information needed. Because you can reach even the most stubborn anti-hunter; it is possible. I’m living proof.
It’ll be interesting examining things from this new perspective. And I’m sure I’ll be telling you things you’ve all known for years. But for me, it’ll all be new and exciting.
Hunting, anti-hunting, education, information

I think for a lot of women misplaced compassion is the biggest reason they think hunting is wrong. No one thinks that deer and other animals live in a world where they are preyed on all the time and that the predators aren’t worried about killing their prey as quickly and humanely as possible.
I’m glad to hear that information and education were successful in this case. It means we are doing some things right, and that’s a good thing to know.

You can do a lot to help non-hunters understand us hunters, because you will have an understanding of non-hunters (and even anti-hunters) that many of us that grew up in a hunting culture won’t have.
You are a special person.

I was with you, I too considered the hunt to be …. poor bambi. I have learned a lot from a lot of the post’s and probably will end up being one of the biggest supporters.
