Hunting Sense Blog Hunt #4: Outdoor Blogging

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

The long overdue issue #4 of the Blog Hunt.

I’ve been excited over the recent rash of posts made by my fellow outdoor bloggers on blogging. As I’m still fairly new at blogging and always looking for ways to improve, I find myself doing Google searches for blogging tips all the time. What is out there is great, but when you here experiences and tips from people who blog about the same things you do, that is valuable information. Here are just a few of the great posts anyone who blogs about the outdoors should read.

Alpha Trilogy
Outdoor Blog Marketing 101 - Fill The Parking Lot, part 1

…So, what is my point? What does parking in front of the store have to do with your blog? The point is simply to ‘Make your visitor feel comfortable’. Make them feel safe and comfortable entering your site and digging a little deeper.

How? How do you park out front and fill up the parking lot?…

Hunting Sense Blog Hunt #3 - Outdoor Bloggers Convention Edition

Monday, June 18th, 2007

The Hunting Sense Blog Hunt is where I share some of the posts my fellow outdoor bloggers have made that really caught my attention. Well, this edition follows along those lines with a little twist to it. There has been talk of a possible Outdoor Bloggers Convention so I’m doing a special Outdoor Bloggers Convention edition this time. Kristine at Hunt Smart Think Safety is the one running with the idea, so I’ll start there.

Outdoor Bloggers Convention

Matt from Bright Ideas Outdoors Weblog posted the above in response to my June 12 post. The idea of a convention for outdoor bloggers first surfaced, if I remember correctly, on Rex Howell’s Deer Camp Blog. It’s been kicked around in a couple of other places, including on this blog, but it’s never been addressed seriously. I figure today is a good day to do that.

So fellow outdoor bloggers, what are your thoughts about having an Outdoor Bloggers Convention? I’m willing to work on organizing it, if there is enough interest. I’d love to say that my company would be one of the sponsors but, at this point, that’s just not something we can manage financially. Actual money aside, the company would donate my services to organize the convention. We could also use my designer to design a logo and the associated logowear, since we all know it’s not a convention with out a t-shirt. I might even be able to sweet talk my way into some t-shirts and caps. (And possibly some cool truck decals for Gunslinger Matt.) So that’s got to count for something.

Hunting Sense Blog Hunt #2

Friday, May 25th, 2007

The Hunting Sense Blog Hunt was suppose to be a bi-weekly feature and I have already messed that up by being a week late for Issue Two. I guess better late than never. Here are just a few of some terrific posts made by my fellow outdoor bloggers. Keep up the great work and thanks for some great reading!

Deer Camp Blog
Owling My Deer

My First Deer With A Bow
At an early age, we were taught that when my father came off his stand and it was time for us to move out of the woods, he would call like an owl. I have heard him call hundreds of times and you can not tell the difference between him and a real owl. I have watched while he called owls in to us. The purpose was to not disturb the woods and we could all slip out without any undue noise. Years ago, when we hunted up at Abbeville, we had located an area where a dark colored and very smart big buck lived. We called him the Shadow. We never got him but had some great times hunting this area. This is about the time I got my first deer with a bow.

Hunting Sense Blog Hunt #1

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Sometimes you see an idea that is just so good, you have to join in. That is how the Hunting Sense Blog Hunt came about. I first noticed something similar with Hunting Life’s The Outdoor Blogosphere Version 1 and then saw a variation with Outdoors with Othmar Vohringer’s The Blog Buzz #1 Edition. Basically the idea is to single out post from fellow outdoor bloggers that catch your attention or make you stop and think for a bit longer than you normally would. So here is my take on it with Hunting Sense Blog Hunt #1.
