Cabela’s E-Z Hang Treestand

I’ve never had the opportunity to try one yet, but the concept of Cabela’s E-Z Hang Treestand is one I like. It offers a good alternative to the hunter who wants better portability for relocating than a traditional strap-on stand offers but doesn’t want a climbing stand. The innovation enabling this ease of relocating the stand comes in the form of a chain on bracket that you simply attach to the tree then slide the stand into the channels.
All a hunter has to do to be able to quickly switch locations is to remove the stand and move to another location where they have already attached another bracket to a tree. While it doesn’t offer the complete freedom a climbing stand does of moving to a new location on a spur of the moment switch, it does allow hunters an easier way of doing it than having to attach a standard hang-on stand or using more than one of them. Couple this with the use of a set of lightweight climbing sticks and you have a pretty good portable system.
Now for the drawbacks:
First, at twenty bucks a pop before taxes, and/or shipping, additional brackets run the base price of $99.99 for the aluminum version up quite fast. Another thing I would like to see is the use of a ratchet strap of some sort instead of the use of a chain, although the chain does lend itself well to being able to lock the brackets in place and leaving them without worrying about them being stolen. The last thing is the actual design and comfort level of the stand. It is very basic when compared to many traditional hang-on stands in a comparable price range.
I would like to see a few other stand manufacturers explore the idea of such a hanging system for their stands and see what improvements could be made. I don’t know if any have or are considering it, but it seems like there would be a market for it.
