A Family Tradition

by

My mom left this comment here on Hunting Sense yesterday and I wanted to make a post of it so more people could read it. I’m very proud of my cousin for the great young man and hunter he’s growing up to be. And I’m happy that my mom, the person who taught me to hunt and be the man I am, is doing the same for him. Thank you, Mom, for this and all the wonderful memories you’ve given me over the years.

Cliff
Yesterday I took my 13 year old nephew and your cousin deer hunting.
He didnt get a monster, just a doe. But I can tell you the thrill of seeing this young man get his deer was so awesome.
He told me, “I am helping put food on the table for Dad and me.”

He has learned to be a responsible hunter and knows you dont take an animals life as a light thing.
I was so proud to be a part of that hunt and see the look on his face. Tears in his eyes when he was stroking his deer, thanking her for the food.

Made me think of you and your brother and our many hunts,
Thanks for the memories.

Your mom gave me this site. You are doing a great job. I wanted to tell you about the deer my son Tyler took this past Sunday. We were invited by a friend to go hunting in western Oklahoma next to the Kansas line. My son mad a 377 yard shot on a GREAT buck. It was a 8 point with two stickers coming from the bottom one on each side. The buck has 7 ¾ inch G1’s and G2’s, it is 20 ½ inches on the inside and field dressed at a whopping 170 pounds.

My son is only 14 years old and this is the 5th season that he has been bunting with me. This was his 4th buck to take and the 13th deer he has taken.

I want to encourage everyone to take a child hunting there is nothing that gives me greater pleasure than to take my children hunting with me. I will send a photo as soon as I get them down loaded.

    Sincerely

    David Hastings

    David,

I just read the email my mom sent me telling about your sons deer. I am so impressed with the younger generation of our family and the hunting skills they are developing. And kudos to you too, because I know you do a great job in passing that on.

I look forward to getting the picture. I’ll make sure to post it up. And tell him I am proud of him, and a little envious, that was one awesome buck he got. And it was a spectacular shot too.

And thanks for the compliment on the site, I’m glad you like it.

I must be doing something right, he has past anything that I have ever been able to accomplish hunting. There was no greater feeling than to be able to stand beside Tyler and watch him take a trophy like that.

Would you send me an email at my address above so I can send you a couple of photos of Tylers deer?

    Thanks
    David
